The case for European lines
Mandatory health screening, national trial systems and breed surveys create a continuous filter. Thousands of dogs are assessed publicly every year, results are recorded, and breeders who produce failures lose their market. That produces reliable data, and reliable data produces predictable puppies.
Where the advantage is real
Depth of choice, verified working titles, documented health results and access to lines with fifty years of performance history are all genuine advantages that the UK market cannot easily match.
- Larger tested population to select from
- Enforced hip, elbow and DNA screening
- Public trial results across generations
- Breeders supplying operational police and military clients
Where it is overstated
'Imported' is not a quality mark. Europe exports plenty of mediocre dogs to buyers who assume geography guarantees ability. A UK-bred dog from titled, health-screened parents beats an untested import every time.
How to judge honestly
Ignore the country and examine the evidence: titles, health scores, video of the parents working, and the breeder's willingness to discuss faults. Those four things predict outcome far better than a passport.
